Coronavirus Update

Our Well-being & Bereavement team are still accepting referrals and doing their upmost to support bereaved carers during this difficult period.

If you live in Birmingham and have experienced a bereavement of the person you have been caring for, we can offer support over the phone and can identify community support within your area, such as food banks/delivery services or prescription collections where possible to anyone who is isolated. Call 0121 809 5902.

For carers who have signed-up, we also offer a Chat Cafe via Zoom. The Chat Cafe takes place every other Wednesday, starting from Wednesday 17th June 2020, at 11.00am. Call 0121 809 5902 to find out more.

Bereavement and Wellbeing Service

If you live in Birmingham, are over the age of 18 and have experienced a bereavement of the person you have been caring for, or you will soon lose the person you are caring for (e.g. terminal illness), you can access our service.

Almost everyone will become a carer at some point in their life. Carers can often become disconnected from their communities and lose touch with their friendship groups and when the cared-for person dies, many carers can become lonely and socially isolated which can lead to many issues, such as a decline in physical or mental health.

Support and services available

The Bereavement and Wellbeing team is a consortium of third sector organisations, including Crossroads, Communities in Sync and Ideal for All, Afro Caribbean Centre, KUUMBA Centre and Sandwell Advocacy, working together to support carers to cope with the loss of their loved one by offering practical support and a range of bespoke services.

We have specialist officers who will visit you in your own home or other location to suit your needs, to identify your requirements and signpost you to other agencies if needed. Together we can develop an action plan which can include  –

  • Integration into the local community
  • Looking at your health needs
  • Give you options to socialise
  • Give you training & employment opportunities
  • Funeral/financial planning
  • Chat Cafe via Zoom every other Wednesday at 11am
  • Provide you with different options of bereavement support which include – Peer Support Groups, traditional bereavement support, befriending service, group activities, advocacy
  • Access to our Healing Garden project
  • Access to our the Living Memory project.

Referral process

Referrals can be self- referrals or by a professional or friend with your consent.

To make a referral, you need to complete a Caring For Carers Referral Form and email it to kerry@communitiesinsync.info

Alternatively, you can make a referral online or by calling 0121 809 5902  for a form to be sent to you.

Once completed and received, an officer will contact you within 2 working days.
