If you Live in the Perry Barr ward or any of its constituencies (Aston/Birchfield/Handsworth/Handsworth Wood/ Kingstanding/ Lozells/ Nechalls/Newtown/Oscott) and are over the age of 18 and have experienced a bereavement of the person you have been caring for, or you will soon lose the person you are caring for (e.g. terminal illness), you can access our service.
Almost everyone will become a carer at some point in their life. Carers can often become disconnected from their communities and lose touch with their friendship groups and when the cared-for person dies, many carers can become lonely and socially isolated which can lead to many issues such as a decline in physical or mental health.
Support and services available
The Bereavement and Wellbeing team consists of officers from a number of local organisations, including Crossroads, Communities in Sync and Sandwell Advocacy, working together to support carers to cope with the loss of their loved one by offering practical support and a range of bespoke services.
We have specialist officers who will visit you in your own home or other location to suit your needs, to identify your requirements and signpost you to other agencies if needed. Together we can develop an action plan which will –
- Connect you to your local community
- Look at your health needs
- Give you options to socialise
- Provide you with different options of bereavement support which include – Peer Support Groups, traditional bereavement support, befriending service, group activities advocacy and access to our Healing Garden Project and in Living Memory service.
Referrals can be self- referrals or by a professional or friend with your consent.
To make a referral, you need to complete a referral form which you can request online or by calling 0121 553 6483.
Once completed and received, an officer will contact you within 2 working days.
